time
Unix timestamp converter
Convert Unix time to dates and back, with US and EU time zones.
Runs 100% in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded, stored, or sent to a server.
How to use
- Paste a Unix timestamp. Values with 13 or more digits are treated as milliseconds; shorter values as seconds.
- Or type an ISO-8601 date, then convert it to seconds or milliseconds.
- Pick a time zone to see the wall-clock representation. The conversion uses the IANA database in your browser.
- Use Now to capture the current instant, then copy the Unix value into a database or a JWT claim.
Unix time is a single number: seconds (or milliseconds) since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z. Logs, databases, and JWT exp claims all speak it, but humans do not. This converter turns that number into a readable date in the zones you actually ship to — New York, London, Berlin — and goes the other way when you have a date and need an epoch integer.
The math is local. You can convert a timestamp from a customer ticket without sending it to a third-party clock website. Leap seconds are ignored the same way Unix time ignores them: this matches JavaScript Date, POSIX, and almost every application clock.
Examples
Seconds
0 is 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC, the epoch. 1710000000 is 2024-03-09 16:00:00 UTC.
Milliseconds
1710000000000 is the same instant as 1710000000 seconds. The converter detects the unit from magnitude so you do not have to.
ISO input
2026-10-19T09:00:00-04:00 parses as an absolute instant, then can be re-expressed as Unix seconds.
Seconds, milliseconds, and time zones
JavaScript Date stores milliseconds. Unix people often store seconds. Mixing them up shifts a date by a factor of 1000 — you will land in 1970 or the year 56,000. DeskKit guesses the unit from the absolute value (a 13-digit number is almost always ms) and shows which unit it picked.
Time zones here are IANA names (America/New_York, Europe/Paris), not fixed UTC offsets. That means daylight-saving transitions are applied by the browser. If you convert a timestamp that falls on a US spring-forward gap, you will see the same folded result Date would give you.
For cron next-runs, use the cron tool; it can also project times in a chosen zone. This page is for a single instant.
FAQ
How do you tell seconds from milliseconds?
If the absolute value is at least 1e11, it is treated as milliseconds. You can still force the other unit with the output toggle after parsing.
Does this handle leap seconds?
No, and neither does JavaScript Date nor typical Unix timestamps. Leap seconds are smeared or skipped by the OS. For application work this is the correct model.
Which time zones are available?
A short list of common US, EU, and APAC zones is highlighted. If your browser exposes Intl.supportedValuesOf("timeZone"), the full IANA list is also offered.
Is the timestamp sent to a server?
No. Conversion uses Date and Intl in the page.
